Generosity | 04.10.22

Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.
– Luke 12:15

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”
– Luke 12:20-21

The good news is: You’re rich!

Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God.
– Ecclesiastes 5:19

The bad news is: You’re rich!

Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.
– Luke 18:24-25

Being Rich Towards God:

1. Think like a steward, not like an owner.

The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it …
– Psalm 24:1

Start with the tithe.

2. Invest more than you spend.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
– Matthew 6:19-21

3. Live to give.

He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor.
– Proverbs 22:9

… “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”
– Matthew 21:2-3
